Message From Our CEO

As we say goodbye to 2009 and start to get comfortable in 2010, I don't want to forget that the new year brings new resolutions. Here are my top ten resolutions for 2010 that I want to keep in my mind and yours:

  1. Reduce Stress Overall – Stress is linked to many problems in our life and mostly it just doesn't feel good. Remember to take a deep breath and relax. You can also come to a lecture like, "How to Manage Stress Through Eastern Medicine" or "Stress Less Self Hypnosis"
  2. Spend More Time with Family & Friends – Gilda's Club Westchester welcomes anyone: men, women, and children, along with their family and friends. Make plans to come for an evening of camaraderie at one of our social events. Check out our monthly calendar for the next event.
  3. Save Money – With the economy in the condition it is, saving money seems more important now than ever. Membership at GCW is always completely free of charge, so bring a friend!
  4. Make an Appointment for a Checkup – Life gets busy and we sometimes neglect routine checkups for our bodies. It is especially common in men to neglect visiting their doctors. This year, make an appointment for that checkup, even if it is just to confirm that everything's working the way it should be.
  5. Take a Trip – It is always nice to get away, but sometimes a trip in your own backyard is just as rewarding. Try a "staycation" instead of a vacation. Explore somewhere new or go to a new place you have been putting off. If you are itching for a new place to go, but don't know where, check out our special events listings. There may be a location that you have wanted to visit that would benefit GCW at the same time.
  6. Learn Something New – You can teach an old dog new tricks! Learning something new is a great way to exercise the mind. Here at Gilda's Club Westchester we have classes, lectures and workshops that are educational and entertaining. Our resources section is a great way to gain new knowledge about different types of cancer or other cancer organizations.
  7. Get Organized – It's time to make a "to do" list and check it off. Whether it is your house that needs to be re-organized, your work life or your personal life, you will feel better when all the clutter is clear and you can focus on the rest of your resolutions. Check Gilda's Club Westchester's calendar to see if we have any upcoming lectures that would be helpful, like Information on the Social Security Disability Program and Medicare Part D.
  8. Volunteer to Help Others – At GCW, we rely heavily on our volunteers. The time and dedication they give is so special and inspiring. Read our Volunteer Newsletter to see how people are helping out.
  9. Get Fit / Lose Weight – This is always a top resolution on people's lists. Being healthy is an important part of life. We know here at GCW how important it is too. We offer Yoga and Pilates classes, Stretch and Tone, Zumba, Walk Fit, Tai Chi and Cardio-Step. Come join us for a class!
  10. Enjoy Life More – This is an important step to a happier and healthier you! Take up a new hobby, like beading or knitting. Join our Red Door Readers group and read a new book. Go to a theater performance, like the new musical The Addam's Family. Or, head to the local gym/spa. Equinox Scarsdale hosts "Gilda's Day at Equinox" each year which is open to the public or APOGEE Pilates and Wellness is a community partner right around the corner.

Here at Gilda's Club Westchester we know the importance of keeping a healthy and balanced lifestyle. We strive to continue to offer the emotional and social support that complements medical care as a way of taking care of the whole body. We would love to help you maintain any of these resolutions or any of your own. Check out our monthly calendar of events, our special events, or just browse our resource section for information. As always, anyone is welcome to stop by our clubhouse for a tour anytime.

Wishing all of you a happy and healthy new year!

Sincerely,
