Community Outreach Volunteers
The Community Outreach (previously Corporate Outreach) volunteers are a passionate group that has done so much for Gilda's Club Westchester. For 25 years, they have provided support for non-profits throughout our region. The group was originally formed through the United Way Volunteer Center to provide corporate volunteers with flexible opportunities. Now independently funded, groups of Community Outreach volunteers give their time to causes that are close to their hearts.
For the past five years, our 10 Community Outreach volunteers have devoted themselves to spearheading special events for our members. They planned Couples' Night last February, complete with delicious food, beautiful decorations and live music. In June, these volunteers organized Gilda's Birthday Party, a festive celebration in honor of Gilda Radner where our members enjoyed dinner, desserts and a joyous atmosphere. The Community Outreach volunteers also played a large role in the success of Noogiefest in October, our annual Halloween party for families in the community.
This past November, the volunteers created a new event called Jammin' with Bernie and Friends (with former New York Yankee Bernie Williams). They transformed our space into a lounge, passed hors d'oeuvres and served sparkling soda in martini glasses. Bernie and two other musicians entertained with a blend of jazz, rock and pop to appeal to all. Everyone had a wonderful time, and many of our members were moved to get up and dance!
In addition to supporting Gilda's Club Westchester, the Community Outreach volunteers assist other local organizations including the Blythedale Children's Hospital, White Plains Salvation Army, Burke Rehabilitation Center and Hope's Door Shelter for victims of domestic violence.
"The Community Outreach volunteers are the kindest and most generous group. They are so gracious," says Miranda Dold. "Our members love them. They have really become part of our community." For their dedication and commitment to the GCW community, this group of volunteers will be honored with the Barbara Bennett-Rones Volunteer of the Year Award at the Gilda's Club Westchester Comedy Gala in April.
