Dennis Gorman

As a mental health professional, Dennis Gorman understands the importance of social and emotional support when faced with difficult circumstances. So, when Dennis was diagnosed with prostate cancer a year and a half ago, he joined Gilda's Club Westchester at the suggestion of a friend who volunteered at Gilda's Club New York City.

Since becoming a member of Gilda's Club Westchester, Dennis has attended lectures and become involved with the Men's Networking Group, where male members are able to share their experiences and exchange information with a trained male facilitator. Dennis says, "You can see the results of care, concern, understanding, and empathy."

In addition, Dennis has recently become a part of the Gilda's Club Westchester Ambassador program. As an ambassador, he hopes to reach out to more men in the community living with cancer and help to convey the message that Gilda's Club is not just for women - emotional and social support is equally important to men when they are touched by cancer.

Gilda's Club Westchester has become a place of understanding for Dennis. "It's like Cheers, where everybody knows your name," he explains. "The participation at Gilda's helps for cancer not to consume you."
