2011 Golf & Tennis Invitational
We would like to give a special thank you to everyone who attended the 2011 Golf and Tennis Invitational on Monday, July 18th at Sunningdale Country Club, in Scarsdale, NY. The response to this all day event was incredible!
The morning's tennis Round Robin sold out with 52 women playing tennis and an additional 25 joining us for the luncheon that followed. At the luncheon, Gilda's Club member Chris Smith spoke about how her participation in GCW's support groups, activities and workshops provided the essential social and emotional support she needed to get through her 2009 cancer diagnoses and treatment.
In the afternoon, over 90 people came out to play golf and attend a dinner reception with guest speaker, White Plains Mayor and former Gilda's Club Westchester member, Tom Roach. Mayor Roach spoke about his personal experience with cancer and how important Gilda's Club Westchester is not only for people who are facing cancer, but also for the family members to be able to access the programs that are available. He emphasized that while he was very pleased with the medical treatment he received, he felt he needed more to complement that care, and that "more" was Gilda's Club Westchester.
