"It's Always Something" Teen Essay Contest
This contest provided an excellent forum to engage teens touched by cancer. Local schools, community organizations, and publications were notified of the event. This was the first year GCW hosted the contest and we received 13 submissions.
The essays were reviewed by staff and judged by a “celebrity panel” which included: Darlene Rodriguez (NBC anchor), Bob Marrone (WVOX-AM host), and Kate Stone Lombardi (NY Times Westchester section contributor). A ceremony was held for all participants at Gilda’s Club Westchester on Monday, June 1st. The following prizes were awarded to the three winners: iPod Touch (1st), $100 gift certificate to Foot Locker (2nd), and $50 gift card to Target (3rd).
Below are two of our winners:
1st Place was awarded to Alyssandra Jaquith from Briarcliff Manor, Briarcliff Manor High School.
